The healthy eating pyramid is divided into several layers and shows the intended weighting of the different food groups in our diet. The base of the pyramid represents what we should eat in abundance, while at the top are the foods that are only okay within certain limits. All foods are permitted if they are in the right proportion to each other. The food pyramid can be equipped with actual foods. The pyramid is used to classify different foods, e.g. favourite dishes or selected meals of the day. Food processing, sharing and subsequent communal enjoyment foster communication, strengthen group cohesion and are an important factor in nutrition education.
